Egypt is a historic destination with pyramids and mosques that wow us. Its not all historic though. With desert safari, scuba diving in Red Sea and River Nile there is something for everyone here. Its a country with complete mixture of history, adventure and relaxation. Visiting Egypt is about submersing yourself into the cultures, sights, flavours and local eclectic vibe that spread through out this country giving it its unique atmosphere. Egypt is one of the few places on earth where you can visit any time of year.
Landed in Cairo and we got 10 days in Egypt. I didn’t find a single building which is painted here. It’s a place full of pollution and traffic. But if you are not seeking solitude and want to visit the Great pyramids you need to stay here. We visited The Great Pyramids of Giza ( Be careful with the vendors there who continuously try to loot you. They demand tips too 😛 ), The Egyptian Museum , The Citadel, Sultan Hassan Mosque, Mosque of Mohammad Ali, Al Azar Mosque and Khan El Khallili night market, here you will find everything from sheesha pots to antique jewellery. You find some shady coffee shops and sheesha places which are very famous. While here we stopped at Cairo famous and very old coffee shop called El-Fishawi. Arabic coffee is a must try here.
Hurghada is a beach town along the Red Sea. It is good for partying and diving in the Red Sea. After relaxing for two nights and diving twice in the Red Sea we realized we are looted in all possible ways. So we decided to book our rest of the trip through some travel agent ( which I don’t prefer doing ). We booked our next sightseeing through Getyourguide.com and explored rest of the places with food and 5-star stay. It still cost us less compared to other days where we stayed at 3-4 star places and traveled through cabs. With Getyourguide we explored Luxor temples, Aswan, Memphis, Valley of kings, Karnak, Pyramid of Khafre, Temple of Queen Hatshepsut’s, Medinet Habu, Valley of the Queens, Luxor Museum, Amun-re, Remesseum.
From travelling in local trains to staying at a old traditional hotel we have experienced true Egypt. Our favourite food there will be Kushari ,shawarma, baladi bread and Arabic Coffee. This place definitely needs a travel agent or hell lot of planning. Otherwise, you will be looted and waste your time there. Be very careful and bargain a lot with people. Dress accordingly as people there stare at you .
Egypt trip has cost me INR 70,000 including return flights (30K) and visa (5K). Diving here is very cheap, it cost me around 5K. And if we didn’t get looted in few places the trip would have been completed in 55 to 60K only.
